How Do You Relax?
relax (v) to make less tense or rigid
Everyone at one time or another has longed for relaxation. Whether it’s just for the present moment or the near future. Like that vacation that we have been planning since last year or the trip to visit family next weekend. Relaxing is essential to the body and soul.
When I think of relaxing, I instantly think of visiting my niece and nephew in Houston, TX. whose home and its owners are so gracious and accommodating that it makes me feel like being at a resort. It is so relaxing sitting around the pool talking or thinking to yourself until my niece wants to go run errands. Then I think “no rest for the weary”.
When we get in the car to run errands across Houston we could quickly get into high anxiety or stress mode because of the traffic that we could be ahead of us, but we don’t. When that jam that we both love comes on the radio Luther Vandross, “Until You Come Back to Me (That’s What I’m Gonna Do).” We are bobbing our heads and snapping our fingers starting to get into the groove of the music and we quickly return to relaxation mode. We are listening to an Old School radio station and I turn the radio up and we jam to the music. Music is relevant to relaxing. Relaxation is very therapeutic and soothing to the soul.
There are so many ways to relax. Maybe you would prefer getting a full body massage, watching a funny movie, having a long talk with an old friend or you could always have a hot passionate boot knocking with the one love or the one you’re with. Now, that would offer instant relaxation. Laughter is one of the best ways to relax. Crying is cleansing and can sometimes give you a feeling of release. There are numerous ways to relax and since there are many ways of relaxing the choice would be a personal preference for everyone.
What Keeps Us From Relaxing?
In today’s times, we are all consumed with the world around us. We’re driving or rushing to get somewhere either taking the children to school or hurrying to get to work or any number of appointments that we have on our calendar. Some of us are consumed with work or events in our daily lives. We are sometimes are involved with planning a large event (i.e. wedding, party, etc.) or we’re participating in other things going on in our lives. Like going to church, or our children’s school, working late or meeting the girls for happy hour. There are so many reasons we never even think about relaxing.
There are some of us that have more earth-shattering things going on in our lives. Someone very dear to us is suffering from an illness in their family, financial worries, problems with children, parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins and/or friends. You could be on the verge homeless or be suffering from a number of different reasons. Whatever your circumstances maybe you still need relaxation in your life.
I believe that one of the biggest problems that we face today that hinders us most from having relaxation is electronics. Mainly our telephones. Come on people put them down. Some people are so obsessed with there phone that they are really not with us, even when they are present.
Why We Should Relax
Have you ever played one of those games on FaceBook? Come on now. One of them, when the game opens up, says “swipe your stress away. Really? Really? By the time I had finished that game I was so stressed out that I had a knot in my left shoulder. Not my go-to for relaxing.

Beauty To Relax In
Let’s discuss the beauty that I would like to share with you and hopefully, you will be able to look at these images and they will put you into relaxation mode.
I will first attempt to describe an image for you. I would ask you to picture in your mind what I am about to describe to you. Then I will share the image with you. Just use a little imagination.
Corpus Christi, Texas the city where I was born and raised. I have many beautiful memories living in Corpus but something I really regret is that I was not as aware of beauty when I lived there as I am now. You know they say you don’t miss what you had until it’s gone. Anyway, it is 6:45 am on a Saturday morning and I am driving around the city of Corpus and I get off the freeway at Ocean Drive. I make a right and drive until I get to what is called the T-Head which is a marina. I turn left, park my car facing east and patiently wait for the sunrise.
When the sun starts to come up over the horizon a vale of clouds still covers it. I begin to see the Hughes of pink, yellow, grey and blue skies. The waves are coming in and you can hear them hitting the T-Head. The smell of the saltwater is strong and the seagulls are flying all around. The sunrise is amazing. It is one of the sunrises where you could look directly into the sun because it is nowhere as bright right now as it will be in the next 15 minutes or so. I sit there and thank God for the wonders that He performs daily and thank Him for letting me live to see another beautiful day. This is what I was seeing.
That made me Relax in Beauty.
While living in Corpus my doctor’s office was located on the island. This was intentional I always made my doctor’s appointments early in the morning so that on my drive there I could enjoy the beauty. I would watch the waters from the Gulf of Mexico and all its beauty. Sometimes the waves would be very choppy and sometimes the water was calm. This trip gave me another opportunity to watch the sunrise. By now the sun was brightly shining and you had to put your sunshades on and let the sun visor down. Once I reach the doctor’s office and open the car door, I can smell the familiar smell of the saltwater in the Gulf of Mexico.
Once I get into the doctor’s office I sign in and take a seat and wait to be called. I look up and see two yellow seahorses inside this beautiful aquarium. First I think I might be seeing things, but no they are looking majestic. I can’t stop staring at them. I am sure if they were speaking to each other that they are probably asking “what’s wrong with her?
The bottom of the aquarium was lined with purple and white sand with beautiful corals. This is the first time that I have ever seen living seahorses. I have seen several seahorse skeletons and seen images in books and on the internet. These seahorses were live and in my face. They were amazing to look at.
This is what I saw.
It really made me relax just watching them.
I love star gazing and you can do it best when you are far away from the lights of the city. This is one of the things that I have put on my bucket list to do. I would like to go and watch the stars over New Mexico and Arizona night skies with my own eyes. I saw an image on google one morning I had no idea that this much beauty was right next door to me.
OK, people, maybe I am behind in nature, but my awareness has now been activated. I can’t believe that people live under these beautiful nightscapes. I wonder if they are as amazed about them as I am. Or do they just not even look up at night when they walk outside where they live. Don’t take it for granted people.
I live in Texas. I have seen a lot of the night skies over Texas. I have also done some research on the skies over Texas at night and have found the old saying to be true. “The skies at night are big and bright, deep in the heart of Texas. I am always looking up for the moon and into the starry nights. I’ve seen beautiful images of the Texas skies especially at the state parks and they are beautiful.
But a certain image that I saw of the skies above New Mexico was breathtaking. It shows the night sky that is full of stars. When the stars first hit the horizon the sky is lilac colored and it hombre’s up to a darker purple. The mountains in the photo are shades of golds, greens, and yellows that are breathtaking.
This is the image I saw.
I Relaxed in Beauty immediately.
I believe that you can be very upset by something or someone, no matter what it is, if you just stop for a minute and look around you might be surprised that you may find some beauty somewhere close to you. Beauty is out there you just have to practice awareness so that you can find it.
Please share with me a description below of an image of beauty that you have recently seen that gave you a reason to pause and relax, even if only for a few seconds.
